January 22--LOOK for the Magic!

Above all, watch with glittering eyes the whole world around you because the greatest secrets are always hidden in the most unlikely places. Those who don't believe in magic will never find it.  --Roald Dahl

When our sons were young, I read to them every night before bedtime. We all loved the Roald Dahl books like "The BFG" (stands for Big Friendly Giant), "The Twits," and "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory." Quentin Blake is the fabulous illustrator of those books. Between those two men--what imaginations and what magic!
As a life-long gardener, I have been awed by the magic of early morning sunlight on the dewdrops on strawberry leaves. I have watched a spider spin a huge web that glistens in the sunshine. I have laid on a Kansas hilltop with the sun setting to my left and a full moon rising to my right, with a billion stars overhead. In the ocean in Jamaica in December, pelicans fished and stingrays floated by just a few feet from me. Watching "with glittering eyes" is an extremely rewarding practice!
