--Sir Winston Churchill
My dad was a very generous person, and I learned quite a bit from watching his giving nature. "Snapper" was wise with his money and shared his hard-earned bounty easily within the family and with those organizations he considered worthwhile. He would go door to door collecting for the Heart Association or the American Cancer Society. He was good at talking folks into giving.
I would add that giving joyfully is a key aspect of making a life. So many organizations are begging for money, and churches, especially, have tended to be quite forceful about it. I see that this sours people on giving, which I find sad. If you are not giving with a generous, happy heart, don't bother. The same goes with the gift of your time--if you are not offering your talents with joy, you aren't helping. Because you can't say "no" is not a good reason to do anything.
Enjoying now,
Leta
